Description
Think of me as your personal trainer, but instead of running a marathon, you’ll be finishing your classes with strength and confidence. Tell me your goals, and I’ll build a plan to get you there.
Some clients need help with:
- Written assignments.
- Public speaking or presentation prep.
- Getting organized.
- Understand class requirements.
- Test prep.
Your academic coaching plan will depend on your needs, but here are some features I offer:
- Free 30-minute consultation where we discuss your goals and get your coaching sessions on the calendar.
- 30-60 minute virtual check-ins for ongoing projects or homework help, as often as 3 times a week or as little as once a lifetime.
- Text message reminders to get your homework done (free for 8 and 16-session tiers).
- One-off study, writing, or presentation prep sessions.
- Free access to my monthly study group, where we meet (virtually, of course) for 2 hours one Saturday a month for dedicated study or writing time.
Who is academic coaching for?
Academic coaching is for anyone! I coach clients from fourth grade and up, although most of my students are pursuing their undergraduate degrees. For younger clients, I tend to act as a tutor and homework helper. High school and college students often look to me for accountability and general study advice. My most advanced students (those pursuing graduate degrees) usually rely on me to help them with big presentations, written assignments (including proofreading/editing), and study for major exams.
Can you coach anybody?
Yes and no. If you are a medical student or studying for the LSAT, the type of help I can provide looks much different than the help I can provide a high school student studying math. For those advanced students or students studying concepts outside of my area of expertise, I can provide homework guidance, help you study for a test or prep for a presentation, and keep you accountable. I may not know if the answer you put on your assignment is correct, but I can ensure you meet the assignment criteria.
What is your area of expertise?
If school can be considered an area of expertise, it’s my area of expertise. Along with being an educator, I’ve taken over a hundred college classes – from Calculus III and Differential Equations to Anatomy and Physiology – and done well in all of them. An A- is the lowest grade I’ve ever received in college (it was only once, but it was devastating), and that includes graduate school. Over the years, I’ve accumulated several study techniques that allow me to succeed in any class – in-person, online, hybrid, lab, or otherwise. I’ve also worked with students of all backgrounds and learning preferences.
Academically speaking, my area of expertise is Criminology and Criminal Justice. My MA is in criminology, and I teach CJ classes at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Bellevue University.
