Finished on June 23, 2025. This skirt was made using the New Look N6793 sewing pattern (dress B). The fabric is Cream Peony Cluster Slub (80% rayon, 20% linen) that I got from Joann’s Fabrics during the closing sale. I got just under 2 yards and still have quite a bit left (but not enough to make another skirt).
Additional materials needed:
- lightweight fusible interfacing (mine was too lightweight – I wish I would have gone with a medium weight or a heavier lightweight)
- invisible zipper
- invisible zipper foot (I just used a regular zipper foot, but I wouldn’t recommend that)
This is the first sewing pattern I’ve actually made something AND finished it. As far as beginner patterns go, this was a really good pattern to start with. There were a few instructions (or lack thereof) in the pattern that threw me off, but I was able to Google the information. I also just got a new sewing machine, so I was learning the machine while learning how to sew from a pattern. It was a challenge!
The fabric was a bit tricky because it’s super shifty, but I managed to make the skirt with it just fine. I had to size down several sizes to get the right fit – apparently the “big 3” pattern designers put a lot of positive ease in their garments. I recommend going off the finished garment dimensions instead of the sizing guide.
Will I make this skirt again? Probably. Will I make it again soon? Probably not. Sewing is cool but knitting is more my speed.
